Geoffrion lead his Wisconsin squad to the Frozen Four and won the Hobey Baker award for best player in college hockey. Geoffrion is the first native of Middle Tennessee to win the Hobey Baker award, and currently plays for the Milwaukee Admirals, the Predators American Hockey League affiliate.

Predators captain Shea Weber is also up for the Sports Person of the Year Award.

Weber, a two-time NHL All-Star, was a member of Canada’s Olympic hockey team that won the gold medal and was named to the Olympic All-Star team, typing for second for points by a defenseman in the tournament. Weber has more than 100 assists in his young career, holds the franchise record for goals on the road by a defenseman, and only Mike Green of the Washington Capitals has more goals by a defensemen since the start of the 2005 NHL season. Weber is the youngest player to become captain in Predators history and is the first Predators draft pick to hold the honor.

Other nominees for Sports Person of the Year include Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price, Tennessee Titans kick returner Marc Mariani and MTSU Women’s Basketball player Alysha Clark.
