Welcome to the Predlines Morning Skate – November 12, 2013 edition. Glad you could join us this morning.
The Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held yesterday in Toronto. NHL.com has great pictures and commentary on the event and I suggest you head over there to check it out. Geraldine Heaney, the only female inductee this year, had the line of the night when she said to her husband: “I want to apologize for all the heat you’ve been taking at work because your wife has a harder shot than you.” That might be a little tough to smaller, but there are only a couple guys who have a wife in the Hockey Hall of Fame. You can read more about her speech here.
NHL.com also had a nice piece on Seth Jones and how his maturity level was a key contributor to his early season success. Both Barry Trotz and Phil Housley are quoted and speak very highly of the young defender.
The big news story yesterday is the injury to Steven Stamkos. Stamkos broke his tibia when colliding with the goal post on a back check. This is a huge blow to the Tampa Bay Lightning as Stamkos was tied for the NHL scoring lead with Sidney Crosby. The timeline for recovery for this type of injury is 3-6 months, which has all of Canada terrified about the potential Olympic implications.
Josh Cooper posted an article yesterday where he spoke with Carter Hutton about his current struggles. Hutton is open about the jump in pressure with the injury to Pekka Rinne and he is just trying to take it day to day.
We talked a lot recently about the Preds goaltending situation, now its time to tell us what you think.
Thanks for giving us a read today. Check back later for a preview of tonight’s game and Part II of the Preds Month in Review: Defensemen. You can read Part I about the forwards here.
