Welcome to the Predlines Morning Skate – November 21, 2013 edition. Glad you could join us this morning.
With Pekka Rinne on the sidelines, his $7 million salary is not paying any dividends for the Nashville Predators right now. Here is a list of the top ten highest paid NHL goalies per save, with Rinne at number 5. If Rinne doesn’t get back soon, he could be making even more per save this year. Meanwhile, Marek Mazanec is making $610,000 a year in the NHL and $60,000 in the AHL. If he was paid his entire NHL salary and did not make another save, he would have made almost $4,400.00 a save, still less than the almost $7,000.00 a save Rinne earned in 2012-13.
In other goaltender tidbits, Allan Muir at si.com posted his goaltender power rankings. You can see who is the running to start in goal for the American and Canadian Olympic teams. He has veteran Ryan Miller listed as the top candidate at this point for the American team. Unfortunately, Tim Thomas is only ranked at number five because he would provide some interesting media fodder.
If you are looking for that perfect gift for that special Blackhawks fan in your life, you might just have missed your chance. The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Monday that they were selling melted ice from their championship run. There were 2013 vials and they sold out in two days. I guess you will just have to keep your eyes open on e-bay.
If you don’t know who Stan Fischler is and own one of his books, then you need to add one to your Christmas list. Here is an interview by our friends at sabrenoise.com about his newest book. Fischler has published over 90 books in his life, many of which are about hockey and all of them are great.
Thanks for stopping by this morning. Check back later for our preview of tonight’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
