Predlines Headlines: More Coaching Changes?

The Barry Trotz era ended not even a week ago in Nashville, but many media and fans are clamoring for a new coach to take up residence behind the Predators bench.

A final candidate likely won’t be selected by Nashville general manager David Poile and the ownership group for a few more weeks, but that isn’t slowing short lists and resumes from being thrown around.

Today’s Predlines Headlines:

The ousting of Trotz in Nashville might mean that the Predators will lose one of their top assets: goaltender coach Mitch Korn. Netminders Pekka Rinne and Carter Hutton express how much Korn helped both of their careers over on the Tennessean.

Losing Korn would mark the loss of another characteristic that has been a pillar for Nashville the last 15 years: The ability to consistently raise of high-quality goaltenders from late round picks or NHL journeymen.

We were treated to two excellent overtime playoff games last night and both of them featured saves by skaters outside of the goaltenders.

Puck Daddy asks: “Was Erik Johnson’s or Max Lapierre’s save better?”

Have to go Lapierre on this one for multiple reasons. 1) His team ultimately prevailed in triple OT. 2) The fact that Lapierre was pushed by a Blackhawks player into the perfect position in the crease just moments before the shot came is really humorous.

Bleacher Report previews three players currently in the playoffs who might become top unrestricted free agents this summer and where they’ll land.

Don’t really agree with most of these predictions. Thomas Vanek is going to the Minnesota Wild or the LA Kings. Andy MacDonald is going to stay with the Philadelphia Flyers. Why am I so sure? Well he signed a 6-year $30 million deal this week…Yeah I know, that’s cheating…

Finally, I said there are a lot of posts on which coach Nashville should hire. Well here at Predlines we’re just helping the situation…

Here’s my post on why Peter Laviolette should be the Predators next bench boss.

And you can read James Summerlin’s short list of coaching candidates here.
