Jaromir Jagr has another year left in him.
Jagr signed a one-year contract with a $3.5 million base salary with a potential for a $2 million bonus if he plays 45 games according to NHL.com. The Devils win in the signing by bringing back their best player and hedging their bets if he is not able to play the entire season. Jagr seemed exhausted at times with the Devils, but he was still able to put up big numbers in New Jersey. Jagr tallied 43 assists and 67 points this season, the most for a Devils player this year.
Personally, I feel Jagr’s contract with the Devils means one of two things. Either he really believes that the Devils have enough talent for a playoff run next year or he is setting himself up for a trade like he did last season when he was traded to Boston. There is no doubt that Jagr still has some left in the tank.
Overall, it’s a good deal for everyone, but I am curious to see if he stays with the Devils this whole season or if he ends up with a Cup contender before the trade deadline.
