The first round of the NHL playoffs concludes tonight in dramatic fashion with three game sevens.
The hat trick of game sevens begin at 6 p.m. (CST) tonight when the Philadelphia Flyers take on the New York Rangers. Next, the Minnesota Wild will attempt to steal the first road win in their series tied at three with the Colorado Avalanche. Finally, the coverage ends with the Los Angeles Kings trying to join a very elite club. The Kings are seeking to become the fourth team in NHL history to win a series after dropping the first three games of their series with the San Jose Sharks.
Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Rangers:
Prediction: Rangers win 3-1. Why: The Flyers have won once in Madison Square Garden this series, but generally, the Rangers have dominated Philadelphia in New York City this entire season. Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundquist will bounce back from his shaky performance in game six last night and shut down the road club.
Minnesota Wild vs. Colorado Avalanche:
Prediction: Avalanche win 4-2. Why: Both teams have been perfect at home this series and the Avalanche will keep the good times rolling at the Pepsi Center tonight. Colorado forward Matt Duchene should feel more comfortable tonight in his second game back from a lower-body injury, and he’ll headman the Avalanche’s swift offensive attack over former Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Suter and the Wild.
Los Angeles Kings vs. San Jose Sharks:
Prediction: Kings win 2-1 in OT. Why: Part of me really thinks the Sharks will get a wakeup call just in time this evening, but it’s hard to feel confident in calling for a San Jose win after how shaky they’ve been the past week. Not only have the Kings claimed three-straight contests over the Sharks but they’ve beaten San Jose by three goals in each game.
