Roman Josi had a very good 2013-2014 season for the Predators with 13 goals and 27 assists totaling for 40 points in 72 games.
Josi, in my opinion, represents the future leader of the Predators blue-line. Playing alongside Shea Weber as his line-mate on the first defensive pairing, Josi is on the ice against the best forwards in the league night-in and night-out.
The 24-year-old Swiss defenseman had a great season last year, had playing experience in the Winter Olympics for Switzerland, and I believe he continues to get better as the season progresses next year. Roman Josi had a -2 +/- rating last season, finishing tied for second on the team in that category amongst Nashville defensemen.
Let’s take a look at Roman Josi’s top three goals from a year ago:
Goal #3: One of the most beautiful goals of the season
Analysis: This is easily one of the best goals from a year ago. Yes, Josi basically scores in an open net but the passing throughout the play is something special. The play starts with a Roman Josi pass then five-passes later Josi receives the puck and lights-the-lamp.
Goal #2: The one-timer past Ilya Bryzgalov
Analysis: A great feed from Calle Jarnkrok to find Josi charging from the point for the laser of a one-timer to beat Ilya Bryzgalov glove-side. Not many goalies in the league are getting a glove on that type of shot; Pekka Rinne of course, but not many other than him.
Goal #1: Josi is allowed to walk in on the Lightning defensemen; bad mistake Lightning defensemen
Analysis: Josi tees this puck up and blasts it past Lightning goalie Ben Bishop. This shot is almost Weber-hard, almost. You’re getting there Mr. Josi, keep playing along side Shea Weber and your game is going to continue to grow, especially the power behind those lightning bolt slap-shots.
In case you missed it, we have already ranked the top three goals from a year ago scored by: Colin Wilson, Seth Jones, Gabriel Bourque, Viktor Stalberg, Rich Clune, Ryan Ellis, Matt Cullen and Paul Gaustad.
Tomorrow we’ll continue the series of Top 3 Goals with the best from Predators forward Eric Nystrom.
