Slowly but surely we are going to get to hockey season. Yesterday we were 47 days away from the drop of the puck, and today, we are 46; one day closer. Forty-six days, aka Andrei Kostitsyn days away from the start of the NHL season.
I promise the dog-days of August and the dog-days of the summer will be over soon, but until then let’s take a look around the wide-world of hockey.
Here are your Predlines Headlines for August 23:
The Predators officially announced yesterday that they are hosting a Rookie Tournament at the new Ford Ice Center. Nashville will host rookies from the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, and the Florida Panthers. It sounds like quite the showcase. Click here for the Predators 19-man roster for the tournament.
On The Forecheck is winding down their off-season tournament, this semi-final matchup highlights Calle Jarnkrok versus the Predators destroying the Blackhawks 7-2 this past season. As much as I love seeing the Predators beat the Hawks, my vote goes to Jarnkrok with his oh-so-easy looking shootout goal against Colorado.
Seth Jones has been playing a lot of golf, working out hard, and excited for this season
Jones seems calm and mature as usual throughout this whole piece, hard to believe he is still only 19-years-old if you simply listen to him and watch game-winners against Carey Price from a year ago.
Stu Grimson breaks down last season with a focus on the blue-liners in this edition of his review. Grimson praises newly acquired defenseman Anton Volchenkov and says he could see some time on the penalty-kill this season due to his shot-blocking skills and overall defensive abilities. I feel like a lot of people overlook the off-season signing of Volchenkov; d0n’t sleep on him, he will be a vital part in the Predators penalty-kill and defensive success.
