Mattias Ekholm: Plummeting

If you’re the type that likes to buy really low and hope for an uptick later on, maybe some Mattias Ekholm stock is right for you. But you’d have to be pretty bold.

Saying it’s been a rocky season so far for Ekholm would be a massive understatement. It’s been downright hard to watch, and the perfect illustration was the brawl he got into that ended in a bloodied forehead after Gabriel Landeskog got in some questionable punches in a scrum in a blowout loss for the Predators:

My confidence is rather low on the chances of Ekholm salvaging his season to the high level that we’ve always known him to be. It’s just not clicking for him at all, and horrible timing as he just signed a 4-year contract extension right before the season started.

Ekholm is still being used heavily with over 23 minutes of ice time per game, but it’s results in just three points, a slumping Corsi rating and relatively non-existent on the offensive end.

If you believe that this is just a slow start and the trustworthy veteran will bounce back eventually, then buy low now. HIs stock couldn’t get much lower.
