Nikolaj Ehlers, Winnipeg Jets
Ehlers isn’t someone who has been in many trade rumors this offseason, but it makes sense as to why he could leave Winnipeg. And he is someone the Nashville Predators could definitely use.
The Jets seem closer and closer to rebuilding by the day, as they are coming off of a letdown season, and Mark Scheifele has been rumored to potentially be out of town. News has also recently come out that Pierre-Luc Dubois might want a change of scenery.
In that case, parting with Ehlers might be something that’s good for both sides. If that is the case, Poile better be looking to see what it would take to get a deal done.
Ehlers fits exactly what the Nashville Predators need as a 26-year-old forward who is coming off one of his best seasons, with 28 goals in 62 games. And unlike the other players on this list, he has shown that he can play with a lot of speed, along with having other great abilities such as a great shot and playmaking.
What truly separates Ehlers from the rest of the pack is that his contract has three years left, and at a very reasonable $6M per year. The Predators would not even have to think about extending him within the near future, which makes him a great commodity from a value standpoint.
Last season showed that Ehlers might be entering his prime right now, which often happens when a player enters his mid-to-late twenties. If the Predators were able to land him, that should make the fans very happy.
