5 historically bad Nashville Predators teams and how they finished their seasons

The past Predators teams in the early years had a massive talent gap to compete, but the same cannot be said about the 2024-25 Predators who are flirting with their worst standings finish in their 26 years of existence.

4. Lockout Shortened Season, 2012-2013: 16-23-9 (41 Points)

Leading Point Scorer: Shea Weber, 28 PTS

The 2012-13 NHL season started late and didn't get underway until mid-January due to the lockout due to disputes between team owners and the players.

The Predators were coming off a very successful 104-point campaign the season before while getting past the first round by upsetting the Detroit Red Wings. So things were trending in a very positive direction for the Nashville Predators franchise heading into the shortened lockout season.

Similar issues to the present day Predators, the 2012-13 Predators couldn't find a way to score goals. They were 29th out of 30 teams in goal scoring at 2.27 goals per game.

Pekka Rinne's respectable 2.43 GAA wasn't good enough to overcome what ended up being a complete throw away season for the Predators. Their momentum came to screeching halt and it was signaling a need to change from the franchise's only Head Coach, Barry Trotz.

Trotz would last one more season behind the Predators bench, but for the lockout season of just 48 games the Predators would lose 10 of their last 11. All but one of those losses came in regulation. Ouch.
