Not a good way to start the Canadian road trip, but at least they get something out of it.
The Nashville Predators scored three straight in the first two periods, but ultimately succumbed to the Vancouver Canucks, who scored two straight to force overtime where they took the two points in a shootout winning 4-3. The Predators take home their first shootout loss this season in four attempts.
Two of three Nashville goals came from Tyson Jost with the other belonging to Matthew Wood, Ryan Ufko tallied his second career assist, and Juuse Saros stopped 24 of 27 shots.
Vancouver held strong possession in the opening frame, putting Nashville in 12-5 shot chokehold. Broke Boeser would give the Canucks the 1-0 off a double tipped shot from Filip Hronek and Marco Rossi.
Jost would tie it up at 1:32 with his first of the night. Justin Barron would dangle the puck around Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk, passing it to Jost in front of the net, who would go backhand for the finisher. He now has goals in back-to-back game for Nashville.
He potted again 5:20 into the second stanza off a missed shot attempt from Roman Josi, leaving the puck stranded and gave Jost the perfect opportunity to capitalize. Wood's goal resulted from a tip from Vancouver forward Liam Öhgren's stick, putting it past goalie Nikita Tolopilo to make it 3-1, Nashville.

Wood has been unbelievable since the Olympic break, scoring five goals (a league-high among rookies) and two assists in seven games. He experienced a rough slump halfway through the season but struck back in full force as he now has 14 goals and 10 assists in 54 games so far.
The third period was a turning point in the game, but not for Nashville. After outshooting Vancouver 8-6 in the middle frame, the Predators once again found themselves under pressure after only shooting three times and allowing seven shots.
Canucks center Marco Rossi brought it within one at 4:55 and Hronek tied it with 1:01 left in the game.
In overtime, Nashville often found themselves regrouping in the neutral zone, getting boos from the crowd. Despite leading in OT shots 3-2, the Preds couldn't get it done and headed to a shootout.
DeBrusk would be the only scorer in the round-robin and hand his team their first overtime win since December.
The Preds will have two days to regroup before they face Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers Sunday. The Oilers have an impressive offensive core but struggle with goaltending. If Nashville can find a way to get past Edmonton's top defenders, they could sneak away with a win.
The road trip ends Tuesday in Winnipeg. These next few games will be crucial for Nashville's playoff hopes.
