Nashville Predators' prospect Cole O'Hara scored one goal in a game against rival school University of Massachusetts Lowell, extending his point streak to 12 games, scoring 11 goals and 20 points in that time. According to the University of Massachusetts on X, that's a school record.
O'Hara's goal total hit 20 on the season after setting the record. This goal also made him just the seventh player to score as many since Umass joined the Hockey East Association. In his two prior seasons in the NCAA, O'hara registered 11 goals total.
With 47 points this season, the talented prospect sits second in NCAA scoring. These are numbers that are impressive enough to be generating Hobey Baker consideration, an award given annually to the most outstanding player in College hockey.
After selecting the Ontario native in the fourth round in 2022, the Predators appear to have made a solid pick. He was drafted out of the USHL after playing for the Tri-City Storm. In his two seasons there, he racked up 101 points in 107 career games.
If Cole O'hara wants to bring home the Hobey Baker, he may have to beat out a potential future teammate currently enjoying a great season in College. Fellow Predators' prospect Aiden Fink is tied with O'hara in points with 47. With three more goals, Fink's season with Penn State is going to get a lot of consideration for the award as well.
Aiden Fink was selected by the Predators in the seventh round, 218th overall. With 81 points in 68 career NCAA games, they may have found a diamond in the rough. A Hobey Baker award on his shelf would further emphasize how much of a steal he may have been.
After a dismal season on the ice, Predators fans will be eager to see two talented prospects on the horizon. In the middle of a thrilling Hobey Baker chase, these players are doing impressive things at the collegiate level, including setting some records for their University. With the Frozen Four approaching, Nashville will hope to see these players lead his school there.
