Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager Chris MacFarland keeps making good move after good move.

After acquiring Ross Colton Tuesday, MacFarland announced today he hired Jamie Langenbrunner as the Predators' Special Assistant to the General Manager. While not holding the assistant general manager role he had with the Boston Bruins previously, he still holds a crucial role in the development of the next wave of Smashville hockey.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jamie Langenbrunner to the Nashville Predators as our special assistant to the general manager,” MacFarland said in a press release. “Jamie is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, silver medalist, member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and one of the best leaders in this sport. He will assist in many areas across the hockey operations department as we work toward our goal of building a championship caliber management team. He is a fantastic addition to our staff, and we look forward to the future of the Nashville Predators."

Langenbrunner spent the last 11 years with the Bruins, most recently serving as the AGM. Behind the scenes he developed players like David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman, helping Boston become a powerhouse in the league for several years. He helped fuel a successful retool, assisting in the trade for Fraser Minten and selecting James Hagens.

In his first season as AGM, the Bruins set an NHL record for wins and points in a single season with 65 and 135 respectively. Under his tenure, Boston posted a 190-98-40 record in the regular season, making the postseason three out of four times.

For the Predators, Langenbrunner's hiring carries a lot of upside. For the prospect pool, it will continue to be added to and slowly become one of the best in the NHL. For the roster construction, he will help guide some of the team's best players to more success.

The first stage of reconstructing a roster doesn't even involve players; it involves hiring the right guys behind the scenes to guide the team in the right direction. MacFarland's hiring of Langenbrunner and Rob Blake are good signs and provide hope for the Predators future.
