2. Team Defense has been much more disciplined than last season
I have really liked the defensive structure for the Predators through three games, and they have really needed it thanks to not getting a lot of goal support. They've done a superb job being in the right places to defend pucks and limit those high danger chances.
Roman Josi has looked really good when defending and not at all rusty after the health concerns that arised over the offseason. His pairing with Adam Wilsby has been solid and there is no reason to break them up anytime soon.
The Josi/Wilsby pairing is allowing 2.2 Expected Goals Against Per 60 with just under 44 minutes of ice time together so far. Josi already has eight blocks on the season.
Brady Skjei and Nick Perbix have also been really good matches on the second pairing. They have a combined 11 blocks through three games. You have veteran leadership on this pairing that should limit the unforced errors.
As a team defense, the Predators are allowing 5.41 Expected Goals Against at 5-on-5. Less than three goals per game at 5-on-5 gives your goalie a chance to win the game for you. Now you just need to complement the team defense with more offense and you'll really be cooking up something special.
