Nashville Predators: Free agency signing starts today
All is quiet right now. The Nashville Predators finished Development Camp and now we wait for free agents to sign. Here is what you need to know for the day.
It is officially July 1 in the Eastern Time Zone. The date on which the free agency signing window will open and news will fly through like a brisk spring breeze. Working behind the scenes, Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile is prepared to see players sign on the bottom line. What tricks does he have up his sleeve? No one really knows.
What we do know is this: we, the fans of the Nashville Predators, trust Poile. Time and time again, he has proven his skill to make a move that may have seemed odd, but brilliant. Today will be a day we hope to witness more magic.

With the day just starting, we are still several hours away from the window sliding open. That would be at noon EST. Or, 11am Central here in Nashville. Until then, things will seem calm. But, just like the weather in the south, things will change quickly. When the window opens, news about moves from all around the NHL will spread.
Nashville bound
What about the Predators? What can we expect from them? Well, we know the team wants a top-six forward. Who that will be is up for speculation. Poile is not giving any nuggets to lead us down a trail.
We also know that there is more room on the team. Marek Mazanec, the team’s third goalie, will not be back with the team in 2017. The Predators did extend a qualifying offer to Mazanec earlier in the week. With him leaving, it means the team is not matching an offer sheet from another team.
Rumors are still swirling, linking the Nashville Predators to Joe Thornton, Matt Duchene, and Nick Bonino. The asking price for Duchene appears to be high, and with any acquisition of him requiring a trade, news may not develop regarding him quickly. But, the interest in Bonino is high, and it is unlikely the Pittsburgh Penguins can keep him with their lack of salary cap space.
