When the Nashville Predators sent P.K. Subban to New Jersey, many fans thought that the Predators didn’t get much in return on the surface.

The Initial trade had the Nashville Predators landing Jeremy Davies, Steven Santini and two second-round picks, which many fans thought was a bad move at the time of the trade, but David Poile knew he had something in Jeremy Davies.

Jeremy Davies is a 5’11, 181 lb defenseman who was drafted in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Draft. The 22-year-old last played for Northeastern University, and he has been tearing it up lately.

Davies was nearly a point per game in each of his last two seasons on Northeastern’s blue line, scoring 36 points in 37 games last season and 35 points in 36 games the year before. He is also an assist machine, which the Nashville Predators could use on the blueline, having at least 28 assists in each of those two seasons.

In the 2018-19 season, Davies was a part of the NCAA Hockey East championship team, the NCAA Hockey East First All-Star Team and the NCAA East Second All American Team.

He is an offensively minded defenseman, which would be very important for the Nashville Predators power play in future years to come, he is very smart with the puck and he is a swift skater,

He also has a very good work ethic and has been steadily improving in the defensive zone as his years at Northeastern have gone by,

Scouts said when he was drafted that he is comparable to Shayne Gostisbehere, a third-round pick out of Pembroke Pines, FL who is developing into one of the best offensive defensemen in the league.

Both of the two weren’t very highly touted going into the league, both standing around the same height and weight and having nearly identical production during their college years.

Gostisbehere broke out in his age 22 season, which Davies is going into right now,  and has proven to be a crucial part of their team ever since.

It seems like Jeremy Davies will be starting the season with the Milwaukee Admirals this season, but if he looks good enough during the preseason, there could be a possibility that he could make a push for a spot on the Nashville Predators third pairing.

With the work ethic he has shown throughout his career, there is no telling what heights he could reach if he kept working at his craft.

Most Nashville Predators fans thought Jeremy Davies was a throwaway piece in the P.K. Subban trade, but with his offensive upside and improvement on the defensive end, he could be a crucial part of Stanley Cup runs to come.
