Be the most-hated team again

I get it. Everyone wants the flashy goals and fancy set-ups. It’s better for television and highlight reels, but the Predators also have to get back to being a menace defensively.

More from Predlines

Far too many times last season the Predators got cute and played beyond their skillsets.

With the exceptions to Roman Josi, Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen and maybe Matt Duchene, this team isn’t going to win games getting too cute.

The Predators need to be hated again. And by that, I mean teams should dread going up against the Predators because they know nothing is going to come easy.

This is why I like some of the free agency acquisitions the Predators have made over the offseason, most notably Mark Borowiecki. He shores up the defense whether he plays on the second or third defensive pairing.

If this can happen, then one of the worst-ranked penalty kills in the NHL last season should dramatically improve, and with that some better numbers for goaltenders Juuse Saros and Pekka Rinne.

This is a more than fair New Years resolution for the Predators. Get nasty and despised by other teams like you once were.
