The Nashville Predators are moving closer to cinching up the 4th playoff spot in the Central Division. With the game-winning goal in overtime against Columbus, Roman Josi proved, yet again, why he is the Captain of this team.

There was a bit of scoreboard watching last night as the Predators’ main threat to overtake them in the playoff hunt, the Dallas Stars, went up against the Florida Panthers. Dallas was down early, mounted a comeback but lost in overtime, picking up at least one point for their effort.

Nashville now has a four-point lead over the Dallas Stars in the race for the final playoff spot.  A Predators win against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday and a Dallas loss against Tampa Bay will seal the deal and put Nashville in the playoffs for the seventh straight season.

Quick Recap

The 1st period was a stalemate, with both teams looking for any opening to put a goal on the board. Everything remained pretty even throughout the period, with both teams almost equaling their shots on goal. The Predators would change that in the 2nd period.

In just his second game back, Filip Forsberg opened the scoring at the halfway point, with Ryan Johansen adding a power-play goal two minutes later.

Josi capped off the period with a blistering shot from the blue line to put the Predators up 3-0. Then the wheels fell off in the 3rd period.

A fluke goal opened the scoring for the Blue Jackets in the 3rd period, giving them some momentum. The goal was credited to Emil Bemstrom, his first goal of the season, on a night that would turn into the best of his career so far.

Bemstrom singlehandedly erased the Predators lead. Bemstrom, who had no goals this season up to this point, managed a hat-trick and tied the game, sending it to overtime.

Josi With Another Clutch Performance For The Nashville Predators

With his laser of a shot in the third period and his clutch goal to end the game in overtime, Josi proved, yet again, why he is the Captain of this team.

Josi added to his season point total last night with his two goals, bringing him to 33 points (8 goals, 25 assists). Sitting in the 3rd spot for the most points in Predators’ history, he continues his climb into 2nd place, currently held by Martin Erat.

This game-winner was Josi’s second overtime goal of the season, his first coming against the Chicago Blackhawks back in January. He also cemented a shootout win with a backhand goal against the Stars on March 8.

While Josi has not produced at the same level as his Norris Trophy-winning season, he currently leads the Predators in points. He continues to be a catalyst in the resurgence of a Predators team that was ready to throw in the towel two months ago.

Josi continually proves why he is the Captain and leader of this team. With the way Josi plays the game and carries himself on and off the ice, it is plain to see why he will go down in Predators’ history as one of the best to play the game.
