As the playoffs begin to wind down, the announcements for the various NHL trophy winners have begun to come out.
Before game one of the Golden Knights/Canadiens matchup, the NHL announced that Nashville’s Pekka Rinne had been named the King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded yearly to the NHL player who “best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community.”
The winner is chosen by representatives from the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.
In addition to this special honor, the NHL donates $25,000 to the trophy winner’s charity of choice. The donation will go to the 365 Fund. Rinne started the 365 Fund with former teammate Shea Weber back in 2012 to battle cancer and fund research to find a cure.
This week, we look at the King Clancy winner, a special engagement, and the end-of-year wrap-up for the Predators.
Rinne Adds King Clancy Trophy Winner To HIs Resume
Of his many accolades, the King Clancy Memorial Trophy may mean the most to Rinne. He has worked tirelessly to help those in need in and around the Nashville community.
Whether it was for Rinne’s and Weber’s 365 Fund or various other local charities, you would be hard-pressed to find a more worthy recipient for the honor of being named the King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner.
Congratulations, Pekka. Thanks for all that you have done and will do in the future for the city of Nashville.
Filip Forsberg Engaged To Erin Alvey
It looks like the king of “Stacheberg” is tying the knot. Filip Forsberg and singer Erin Alvey announced on Twitter and Instagram that they are now formally engaged. How could anyone say no to that glorious mustache?
Congratulations to the happy couple.
End-Of-Year Wrapup
Even though the Hurricanes knocked the Predators out of the playoffs, this was an incredible year for a team that faced many challenges throughout the season.
Whether it was playing in empty arenas, taking the time to feed frontline workers, or making the playoffs after having only a 2% chance of getting there, this team stepped up and had a season of which they can be proud.
Fans everywhere are looking forward to next season as the team builds on the things that helped them turn their season around.
